Uncommon Dogs Productions is a 501(c)3 educational nonprofit, established in 2024 and officially documented in 2025, with the goal of not only stopping but reversing the animal shelter crisis in Southern California. We have established ourselves as an educational nonprofit rather than a typical rescue because we do not believe opening another rescue is a helpful addition to the euthanasia crisis going on. So far there has yet to be a resource-based nonprofit based off addressing this problem. That is the purpose of Uncommon Dogs.
This 501(c)3 has several functions outside of education and advocacy. Its overarching goal is to stop the flow of traffic into the animal shelter, help get dogs out, and help keep dogs in the homes they already have.
Uncommon Dogs is different from most educational nonprofits in that it is also a production company. The primary output of the nonprofit is educational materials to inform current and future pet owners. This includes literature, documentary filmmaking, and informative podcasts, all of which are to be found either on this website or on YouTube. The origins of this nonprofit tie in with the origins of its owner/creator, who moved to Los Angeles initially to do film and production. She has since moved to behind the camera and put feet on the ground to proactively help an area of society that desperately needs coverage, yet will never properly get it through Hollywood or the typical press route.
We are based in the South LA/South Central neighborhood, yet our advocacy and experience extends across the state and country, with contacts in other countries as well. The prioritization of animals is not just a local problem but a human problem. However, our outreach efforts are specifically confined to local municipalities due to time constraints and budget.
